We’re back with Sustainable Studio!
Hey SUS-family!
We are thrilled to welcome our campers back for another exciting and educational summer. This year we’ve partnered with Change The Tune to introduce Sustainable Studio! We have an incredible lineup of activities, guest speakers, and hands-on projects designed to inspire and educate our campers about sustainability, innovation, and community involvement.
What to Expect This Year
This year, our camp is structured around four key themes: People, Planet, Peace, and Partnership. Each week, we will delve into specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to these themes. Our campers will participate in engaging community discussions, creative projects, field trips, and much more.
Week 1: People
Focus on SDGs such as No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, and Affordable and Clean Energy.
Activities include graffiti art, a food drive for Hands 4 Hunger, a beach cleanup and so much more.
Campers will learn about the importance of helping others and making a positive impact in their community.
Week 2: Planet
Explore Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
Highlights include guest experts from BREEF, paper making, Junkanoo masks, and bush tea foraging.
Emphasis on protecting our environment and promoting sustainable practices.
Week 3: Peace
Discuss Reduced Inequality, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, and Life Below Water.
Activities feature food pickling, 3D modeling with recycled materials, sandcastle building, and sustainable city design projects.
Focus on creating peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities.
Week 4: Partnership
Learn about Life on Land, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals.
Final week includes field trips, the SUS-OLYMPICS, and a Shark Tank-style pitch competition, and our closing ceremony.
Importance of collaboration and building strong partnerships for sustainable development.
Exciting Activities and Learning Opportunities
Our campers will engage in a variety of activities designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Some highlights include:
3D Printing Project: Campers will collect plastic bottles and learn how to turn them into filament for 3D printing, creating designs made by the campers themselves.
Social Justice Business Plans: Campers will develop and pitch their own business ideas focused on social justice and sustainability.
Hands-on STEM Projects: From building solar ovens to food preservation, our campers will get to explore the wonders of science and technology.
